Title: Cunning Always Trumps Bravery Rating: PG House: Slytherin (Hufflepuff) Word Count: 194 Warnings: None Summary: Tom turns to his Slytherin knowledge to overcome his difficulties with a simple spell
Tom was quietly fuming. This would be a huge block in his plan to world domination. How could he, the top student of his year, the master of so many spells, and the creator of much of the dark arts have been defeated by so simple an enchantment? The theory was simple, and many feeble, worthless witches and wizards far beneath him had mastered this spell. Why then was he not able to master it? He had tried everything his great mind could think of; murder, torture and even destruction but still the spell stumped him. He strode over to gaze at his test subject, its blank eye sockets seeming to jeer at him. Tom turned away from the sight and meditated on the Slytherin emblem on the wall in front of him. Sheer cunning could always trump bravery, so he had learnt. If he could not control the creature then he would simply pretend the job was beneath his dignity and order one of his many minions to take care of it. With that plan firmly in his mind Tom strode out of the room leaving the dementor in its cage behind him.

Great characterization! And I love how you left his obstacle secret until the very end.

Awesome job, Lilac! Tom's impatience and frustration with himself - that he just doesn't understand why he can't best this obstacle - is exactly in-tune with everything we know about him. Great ficlet!

This definitely manages to get into Lord Voldemort's head, before he became Lord Voldemort (that might sound like odd praise, but I assure you that it is). Very good.
