The snitch, Regulus noted, was not actually that hard to find. That might, however have been due to his undeniable talent on a broom. He was, some of his classmates had said, better than his brother.
Regulus doubted that, but still, even if he was a seeker instead of a beater, Sirius loved quidditch. So Regulus loved it too.
He’d never tell anyone, but all he really wanted was for Sirius to like him again. Okay, so maybe he had gone to Slytherin, while Sirius had gone to Gryffindor, but plenty of people had relationships with people from different houses. Surely it shouldn’t make a difference?
But it did, and Sirius didn’t want anything to do with him. Regulus missed his big brother, who had showed him how to play gobstones, and explained the best way to light something on fire without it being traced.
No matter what Sirius said, he was still his brother, and Regulus was twelve this year, he could try out for the team. So he did, all in the hopes that Sirius would love him again.
When that didn’t work he started training harder than ever, and caught the snitch in almost record time in their game against Hufflepuff.
It was later, after the game, when Sirius yelled for the world to hear, that Regulus was no brother of his and he couldn’t give a damn if he could catch a snitch or not, that something in Regulus snapped.
He went back to his dorm with a few of his friends, they were nice to him, and Regulus liked them. A few years later when they asked him to get the dark mark with them he said yes. They were practically family now, and he wasn’t going to get left behind again.
