Title: The Phoenix
Rating: G
Word Count: 299
Warnings: None.
Summary: Teddy is in his laboratory.
Teddy Lupin crept down the stairs, heading for his laboratory. His grandmother, Andromeda Tonks, knew better than to intrude. Normally, he did not work in his laboratory at night, but these were extenuating circumstances. His project, which he had been working on since he had left Hogwarts, was almost complete! Some night-work could be forgiven once it was finished. The only thing left to apply was the paint-job.
He slipped in to the basement, pulling the door gently closed; warding the door with a number of charms he had learnt from his Godfather, Harry Potter, who was Head of the Auror Division at the Ministry. Teddy made his way towards the desk, where he lit the candles with a flick of his wrist. His work area was illuminated, and his masterpiece became visible. The broom was whittled out of the wood of a Scots Pine tree; the resulting aroma saturated the basement, almost rendering Teddy light-headed.
Teddy flicked his blue hair back over his shoulder, and gently ran his fingertips down the length of the smooth shaft, before giving a last inspection of the twigs at the base, which were honed with precision to maximize aerodynamics during flight. Satisfied, Teddy readied his pots of paint, a jar of water, and his small paintbrush. First, he laid the design on paper, so that he would have a plan to follow, when inscribing the design on to the side of the broom through the use of magic.
With delicate strokes he wrote The Ph enix. To complete the name of his broom, between the ‘h’ and the ‘e’, he painted a red and gold Phoenix, using the wings to create the shape of the ‘o’. It was the symbol of the Order of the Phoenix, designed in memory of his parents.
