Title: My Dearest Harry
Rating: PG
Word Count: 441
Warnings: I don't think there are any.
Summary: Lily writes to her son.
My Dearest Harry,
You're Father and I have just received the most terrible news from Dumbledore. There's a Prophecy, sweetheart, and it might be about you. We're not sure, yet, but . . . sweetie, we just want you to know we love you, with everything we've got, and we're never going to stop fighting to keep you alive. We'd both give up our lives for you.
We're not sure if we're going to get to see you grow up, Love, so, just in-case we don't, we're leaving you in the care of Sirius. He'll be a great Father to you; he loves you almost as much as we do.
I hope you never receive this letter, and that we all get to live long lives together, and I get to see you go through Hogwart's, but these are harsh times, baby. I can't promise anything, and I don't want to let you down. That's my biggest worry.
Voldemort is coming for us; I can feel it in my bones. We've escaped his grasp three times, but who knows if we can do it a fourth time? Those three times before we're merely luck. Daddy and I have always protected each other, and now it's time for us to protect you.
Whatever happens, sweetheart, just remember to always stand up to Voldemort. Never let him scare you into submission. He's already done that with so many others, and I won't let him do that to you, too. You can never stop fighting, because Dad and I will always be fighting for you.
We're naming Peter Pettigrew our Secret Keeper (a suggestion from Sirius, who seems to think they'll be less likely to suspect Peter; I can't say I disagree), and I think that will help things. It makes me feel safe knowing Peter is keeping our secret, he's always been such a good friend to James . . . I would have first picked Sirius or Remus, because I'm closer with them, but I know that Voldemort will go right for them.
If Voldemort comes for you, Harry, just remember that you're Father and I are always with you, and when you need us most, we'll be there for you. Just call for us, and we'll come.
We love you so much, always remember that.
Love,
Mum.
P.S. I'm leaving this letter in the care of Albus Dumbledore. He'll make sure you get it when the time is right; Dumbledore has a way of knowing exactly when that is, so trust him.
