Title: Deepest Sympathies
Rating: PG
Word Count: 375
Summary: Fellow parents write a letter talking about the loss of a child.
Arthur and Molly,
We give you our deepest sympathies. The loss of a child is devastating and tragic, especially one as great as Fred. To say it gets better would be a lie but eventually it gets easier. There is a time where you will feel numb to everything; as if what has happened had never really happened. It is after that when things will become the hardest. You will have to overcome so many emotional obstacles, that is the strange thing about grief. Some days you will be very angry, so angry you cannot see yourself feeling any other emotion ever again, and as quickly as the anger comes it can go away leaving you feeling nothing but an endless sadness. During this sadness you feel as though a piece of you has been torn out, you cannot breathe, you might never want to rise from bed again. There is the feeling of never experiencing happiness again but this is not true. After the sadness comes the realisation. You will see things that remind you of your fallen son, things that hold no meaning to him at all, and see it as another thing he will never see or do. There is no word to explain this emotion; it is a combination of fury and depression. You cannot let this emotion control you because if you do you very well might not recover.
Remember the children you have and that they too are going through a time of grieving. There will be times when they do not need you but more often then not they will. Together, as a whole, you all can get past it.
Do not fear that you will forget him for he will always be with you, with your children, and he will never truly be forgotten. Fred was an extraordinary individual who can inspire such happiness in everyone he met that whenever you see him you cannot help but smile. He will forever be in our hearts as he will yours.
We are here for you if you ever need anything. Whether it is someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, or simply someone to sit with you in total silence.
Your Friends,
Amos and Celeste Diggory
