“Go away!” Hermione screamed, running up the stairs, away from the idiot. He hadn’t needed to say anything, not a single word needed to pass his lips, but he couldn’t help it, he just had to say something.
He had realised his mistakes when her beautiful chocolate brown eyes started with well with liquid diamonds, and then the steady flow down her freckled skin, she was stunning even as he made her cry.
“I didn’t mean it like that!” he knew she was self-conscious, even more so since another practically bitchy girl in his house had started being more and more mean to her, and hitting way below the belt.
“Well! What did you mean?!” Her voice was cracking, she knew in reality he was too much for her, she was bookish, and intelligent. In his world she was wife material, and while that sounded ideal to any normal person, in his world it was not nearly as ideal as it sounded.
“I just meant… Why are you even asking! Hermione!” he would not usually argue like this with her, not while she was this upset, which was quite honestly almost never, and it was an emotion within her that he was not quite adept to dealing with, emotion as a whole he was not good with.
She glared at him, and turned away, and he hated it when she turned her back on him, because it was belittling him, and she was not above him, and although it had taken a major bit of time to get him to realise it, she was not below him. They were equals, in more then one way.
However there were definite kinks in their relationship. She was passionate, loyal, smart, honest, loving, and a typical Gryffindor, she was Hermione Granger.
Him, he was smart witted, sly, lying, manipulating, and cold, he was a Slytherin in every respect, he was Draco Malfoy.
“Will you please look at me?” But she was also stubborn, more so then even him. “Hermione!”
He was not going to follow her any more, and she knew that, but yet she would not turn to look at him, and he really did not want to see her leave him like this, not now, not after what they had manage to accomplish together, and there would be no return form this argument, not when they were both so damned stubborn, so grudgingly he gritted his teeth before speaking once more.
“I don’t want bloody Pansy fucking Parkinson, or Millie, or any other bloody girl in this school, Hermione. You’re difficult and annoying, and so bloody Gryffindor, you’re a muggleborn, and hang around with that arse Potter, and I still want to be with you, so will you stop walking away from me.” She did stop walking away form him, but only turned to face him, not daring to walk towards him. “I think Pansy looks great, she’s hot, alright, but she doesn’t wrinkle her nose when she reads something she find amusing. And she certainly couldn’t match me when it comes to making a potion. She’s boring, and rather annoying.”
“You will never ever make do as a normal Malfoy wife, and certainly wouldn’t allow me to have my fleeting fancies whenever I wanted. But no one would challenge me the way you do, no one would keep me as interested as you do, and I know that you hate that I say that, but in my world it works, in all the wrong ways, it works.”
“I am never going to say the things you want me to say, and I think that once you have forgiven me I will wipe your memory clean.”
“Don’t you think, just possibly, that for a few hours a day you could be a little less of an arse?” She was talking and that was always a good sign.
“No I don’t. But I can try.”
“And you have to stop calling Harry an Arse; he was relatively calm when I told him you and me…” Draco snorted, she had to be kidding. “it is only because he’s with Lavender now that he isn’t hunting you down, and all your friends, it was quite a blow for him to find Ginny with Blaise, and Ron, he still wants your head on a platter. But that’s Ron.”
“You’re not going to make this easy for me, are you?” she smiled at him, and he knew there was no easy way of doing this, it wasn’t as simple as clicking his fingers and getting what he wanted, he guessed that was part of the attraction in the first place.
“It’s not meant to be easy, Draco, you’re you and I’m me… This was never ever going to be easy.”

Summary: Love is never simple.
Written for Operation Poufsouffle!
I want to say that this is a simple tale of a boy who loved a girl, and a girl who loved a boy, but love is never that simple.
It never can be.
When it is only the people closest to you, that can truly hurt you, expect a lot of pain.
It’ll never, or at least very rarely, be intentional, but it will happen.
So no, love isn’t simple, and it isn’t painless.
But it’s worth it.
Because a boy loved a girl, and a girl loved a boy.
Not simple, but worth it.
~*~
