Title: To Drink A Toast Rating: PG Prompt #:#2: Spirit Word Count: 203 words. Summary: Arthur will not drink Firewhisky again.
The taste of Firewhisky was enough to make him sick.
It was the fourth toast of their private service at the Burrow, and as the liquid burns his throat, he vows never to drink it again.
He doubts it will ever even be possible, for him to drink it again on any other occasion. Without being reminded of all the times before. No more at Christmas, no more at Easter, or at New Year’s, or on the children’s birthdays, or for any grandchildren he is blessed to have, or on his anniversary, or his or Molly’s birthdays, or Halloween or on the anniversary of that day a week ago.
He’s drunk too many toasts now, for it to ever have that same spark of fire and joy and spirit and endlessness. He had drunk too many before, for fallen brother in laws or for fallen friends. But then that had ended. As they had ended their lives. And then it had happened all over again. The son of a friend. A friend and a cousin. Sirius. Dumbledore. Ted, Remus and Tonks.
And the liquid burning his throat is for that of his son, dead before his father.
He will never drink Firewhisky again.
