Challenge # 1
Dear Santa Clause,
I've never written to you before, I'm reddening at the thought of doing it only now – I am eighteen! I apologize I should have written earlier.
I'm writing to you because I need your help. I want him to believe in magic, not in witchcraft, in true magic, the one you produce with your heart. I'm so sad to know he's never experienced the magic of drinking a hot cocoa, warming both your body and heart, while sitting by the window, looking at the falling snow.
He's never made snowmen either! And I won't talk about snowballs fights...
The magic of Christmas is totally unknown to him, I want that to change.
As time flies, I understand better how important you are to me, how happy you make me. I want him to experience such nice feelings! I've never written to you before because I thought I didn't need to, for I believe in you enough to eagerly wait for your day to come every year. I know, when I wake up on the 25th of December, you'll have left presents under my Christmas tree.
It's not so much the devices, but the meaning they hold which makes that morning so wonderful. They represent the people who care for you, they represent their feelings toward you, they tell you you're not alone.
Don't be offended, my dear Santa Clause, by my words. They don't make you the source of the presents, but a messenger. To me, it's as important. Through your actions, you deliver happiness and love. The warmth of Christmas can only be spread by you.
You're a messenger of love, of Christmas love. I wish, this year, he could finally have a bit of this feeling too.
He isn't as heartless – no, he isn't heartless at all, though his behaviour often leads us to think he is.
He'd certainly grumble if he knew about my letter to you, he'd say it's ridiculous and useless, yet I know him enough now to say his words wouldn't reflect his true thoughts.
He'd be glad, moved, that somebody cares for him and doesn't hesitate to admit it - somebody else than his mother.
I care for him deeply, so I'm writing to you.
Dear Santa Clause, here is my dearest wish for Christmas, please allow Draco to have his share of your wonderful magic.
The little girl who will always believe in you,
Hermione
