Screaming. she could hear it. It was the same screaming from that night, that horrible night. The sound of screaming, the smell of blood, the site of her parents being ripped to pieces.
She woke with a gasp. Sitting up she pushed black hair from her pale face. A dream, it had all been a dream, it wasn't her screaming she heard but the whistle of the Hogwarts Express.
Leaning her forehead against cool glass she watched the country side pass by and the last of the summer light begin to fade. It was two weeks ago that she had received a visit from the Headmaster of Hogwarts himself, Albus Dumbldore.
He had come to the little cottage she had until recently shared with her grandmother, protected by miles and miles of untouched forest. It was how her grandmother, and Phoenix, had liked it. Far way from muggles. Phoenix had only seen muggles once in her life and she never wanted to see them again.
Her grandmother had trained her in all the magic she knew. She could turn a branch into a snake, brew a potion that could kill a man or bring him back from the brink of death, and tame and ride a unicorn. Once her grandmother had died she had continued caring for the cottage, the small garden, and the animals.
When Dumbledore had appeared in the clearing she had been surprised. No one had ever come to the cottage before. It had been surrounded by anti-muggle charms what she reinforced monthly. Which could mean only one thing, this was no muggle.
"Pheonix Fyrechild?" He had asked, examining her over his half moon spectacles.
Phoenix had been hesitant. Should she jinx the man where he stood? "Yes?"
He handed her a parchment envelope, discolored by age and tattered at the corners. "I believe this is yours, five years too late I am afraid."
She had taken the letter and read it quickly. When she had finished her brows had come down in a snap. "I'm not going." She announced.
Dumbledore's eyes had never left her's, "But I promised your mother I would admit you. She was so hoping you would follow in her footsteps despite your... rather unusual heritage."
The compartment door slid open, startling her from her memory. A boy stood there, perhaps not a boy, he looked about the same age as her. He had pale, pale blond hair and icy coloured blue eyes.
"Who are you?" He asked, maybe a bit rudely. His eyes traveled up her making her cheeks burn. "Your not a Hogwarts student."
Phoenix blinked wondering if all Hogwarts students were this ill mannered. "This is my first year at Hogwarts." She said.
"But you're way past eleven." The boy argued, coming to sit on the seat opposite her. She realized for the first time that he was accompanied by two friends, large meaty youths.
Phoenix felt a bristle of irritation. She had not invited them in. "I was taught in my home." She replied.
But the pale haired boy didn't seem to be listening anymore. He was staring at her wide eyed and open mouthed. "Your eyes." He whispered.
Phoenix sighed. She was told her appearance may attract attention. "There is nothing wrong with my eyes." She snapped. Nothing wrong except that they were a startling and unnatural scarlet. At least... they were now, but only because she had fed before boarding the train.
The pale haired boy looked suspicious now. "Who are you?" He demanded.
"Phoenix Fyrechild." She answered, "And you are?"
"Draco Malfoy."
Phoenix had stood as if thunder struck on the spot. It was several minutes before she could speak again. "You knew my mother?" Was all she could ask.
Dumbledore nodded sadly, "I did. She was an extraordinary witch. I missed her after she left... to be with your father."
Phoenix's teeth clenched. Her grandmother had prepared her for the prejudice she had said would come if anyone learned the truth. "And you really want a half vampire to attend Hogwarts?"
Dumbledore had not even blinked. "Very much."
"What House will you be in?" Draco asked her, still unable to take his gaze off her eyes.
Phoenix shrugged. "I don't know. Professor Dumbledore said I would be sorted when I got there."
"Oh."
The trian seemed to be slowing down, she could hear the screeching of the brakes and the sound of hundreds of students getting to their feet preparing to depart.
"Well I hope it's Syltherin." Said Draco, getting to his feet and signally to his large friends. he gave her once last glance before he left the carriage. "I'd like... to see you again." He left, followed by his two friends.
Phoenix rose and gathered her belongings to depart.
;D I had way too much fun with this, like you have no idea, I could go on and on it it could get worse and worse. Maybe I will, if I have some time tomorrow before/after work.
