Title: Just My Luck
Rating: PG
Warnings: Silliness?
Wordcount: 707
Summary: Harry has very good luck, and very bad luck. Sometimes he even has both at the same time.
AN: In the spirit of Pirate Day I decided to write this. Its jut silly, its not meant to make a whole lot of sense or be terribly realistic. I may or may not add more to it.
Harry Potter was known by his friends for his luck. It was either extremely good, getting him out of very chancy situations, or very bad, getting him into chancy situations. So he should have guessed it would be just his luck to actually get to go with the Dursleys on vacation to the Caribbean. He also should have guessed that it would also be just his luck to get kidnapped by Pirates while on said vacation.
It was the summer after Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts and he hadn’t been getting much word from his friends, or godfather. Oh sure, they sent him plenty of letters but they held no real information. He wanted to know what was going on, not get stuck at the Dursleys with no news whatsoever. That was part of the reason he hadn’t told them he was leaving for the rest of the summer.
It wasn’t often that the Dursleys got to go on vacation, and when they had gone in the past they certainly hadn’t taken him with them. A few well chosen words about his godfather had them agreeing that Harry could come, as long as he paid for his own ticket and room. They had been shocked when he produced the money (and rather suspicious), but had been forced to let him come. Harry had wanted to go so that he could get away from the memories, the nightmares of Cedric, and away from his friends. He had left Hedwig with instructions to go stay with Hermione until he got back, and had left most of his things at the Dursleys since he figured he could pick them up when he got back.
Unbeknownst to Harry however Dumbledore had reformed the Order of the Phoenix, and they had been keeping watch on him through the first week of summer so far. On the day that the Dursleys were getting ready to leave Mundungus Fletcher had been on guard duty. A rather good business opportunity had come up and Mundungus had left. He figured it wouldn’t matter if he was gone for an hour or two (or three), it wasn’t like Potter ever went anywhere. Of course this was Mundungus’ big mistake, as that was when the Durlseys, and Harry, had left on their vacation.
Really, any way Harry looked at it he could be worse off at the moment. He had no Hedwig, he hadn’t told his friends where he was going, and his wand was in the hands of who Harry assumed was the Captain. The man in question was really rather striking, and quite confusing. He had been going on about something for the last five minutes, talking in circles, and Harry had long since given up trying to follow what he was saying.
“Jack!” A voice boomed from across the deck of the ship, and the figure it belonged to was rapidly approaching. “ What are you doing?! And who is that??” What ensued after this was a rather long winded fight between the two men about whether the first man, who Harry learned was called Jack Sparrow and Captain of the ship they were on, should have taken Harry in the first place and if they should let him go. The second man, Will Turner as Harry found out later (and Captain of a different ship), seemed rather upset about the Jack kidnapping a kid for no apparent reason. Which Harry thought was rather rich coming from a pirate.
It turned out that Jack had indeed had a reason for kidnapping Harry. He was after a treasure, and in order to find it the Oracle he had spoken to had said he would need Harry Potter. Apparently Jack had spent months figuring just who Harry was and how he would get a hold of him. Harry, idiot that he was, had just gone and made it easier for the man by turning up in the Caribbean.
Eventually they had stopped fighting, Will had apparently given up. Although he assured Harry that as soon as Jack had found the treasure he would be free to go (assuming of course that he was still alive at that time). Harry groaned, yes this really was just his luck.
