I've been thinking....... What if Mrs Norris was originally the Potters' cat and Severus gave her to Filch after finding her mewing outside the Potters' house, knowing she needed a new home, someone who would look after her, someone who needed her company? That way, Severus could see the cat around, and still not have to house it because it would be very Snape-ish to detest the presence of cat hairs in his quarters. Lol What do you guys think?

Awwww. That makes me happy to think about the kitty getting a new home. Filch was a completely dislike able character but at least he loved his cat. How do you think Harry would have felt to know that his family pet had been trained to tattle on him and his fellow students?
I've always wondered if Mrs. Norris is really a cat. Through out the series I suspected that she was actually a witch turned into a cat somehow. Maybe she a woman Filch loved and was turned into a cat using Dark Magic. Maybe Filch accidentally cast the spell himself while trying to do magic. Some very fun fic ideas to explore =)

I actually always wondered the same thing, Fate. It would make sense that a spell used by a Squib would backfire if he actually managed to use one. I imagine if she was originally a witch she would have been Muggle-Born, since she was petrified in CoS. I've also always been intrigued by how she seems to be able to see Harry whenever he's out in his invisibility cloak, but I assume that could always be a magical animal sense of sight/smell.

*giggle* That's hilarious. I love that.
In seriousness though, I think I heard somewhere that she was part-kneazle, like Crookshanks. Anyone know if that's true?
