Title: The Floo Network
Rating: PG
Word Count: 438
Warnings (if any): None that I can think of.
Summary: James Potter has a lot to live up to, and sometimes he gets himself into trouble trying to live up to it.
James Potter had grown up listening to stories about the Marauders. James Potter (the first), his grandfather. Sirius Black, his father’s Godfather and one of his namesakes. Remus Lupin, Teddy’s father. Even Peter Pettigrew, who despite everything was a true Marauder at one point and for that reason was at least mentioned on occasion. Although usually, well always really, it was in a negative way.
James’ best friend was his cousin Fred Weasley. Fred was George Weasley’s son, and he had been named after George’s twin brother Fred. They had also grown up on stories about the infamous Weasley Twins, more even than that of the Marauders. Probably because their parents knew more, and thus had more stories to tell. George didn’t always like talking about Fred, his brother not his son. Sometimes he would get a faraway look in his eye, or pause mid sentence as if expecting Fred to finish it.
Regardless, James and Fred often felt as if they had a lot to live up to. Especially James, because of everything his dad, Ron, and Hermione had gotten up to at Hogwarts. Of course at the moment James was wishing he hadn’t felt this way, because then maybe he wouldn’t be in this mess.
It had all started when that morning, everyone had gathered at Grandma and Granddad Weasley’s house for the night. They were all going to go shopping for school supplies the next day, and then spend the week at the Burrow and have their annual Qudditch tournament. Ron had been telling everyone the story about the first time Harry had used the Floo Network, and needless to say James had gotten it into his head that it was brilliant and that he should try the same thing.
Only problem was when he had coughed while saying “Diagon Alley” he hadn’t ended up in Knockturn Alley. He hadn’t even ended up in Diagon Alley. He had ended up in Riverdunk Alley. In Salem. In AMERICA. He didn’t know how he was going to get home. Or How he was going to contact his parents, since he didn’t have any money on him. One thing he did know though was that when he did get back to his family they were going to kill him.
So it was with this thought in mind that James decided to make the best of the situation. After all, he figured he might as well enjoy it while he could, since he’d probably end up grounded for the rest of the summer. If nothing else then one day it would make a really good story for his children.
