Welcome to the second challenge of the King’s Cross Station House Cup!
In the Epistolary (...or Letter/Diary!) event, King’s Cross Station challenges you to explore a character’s relationship with themselves and with each other – the catch is easy. You need to make sure your fic stays in diary or letter format! This is not a test of your first, second, or third person point-of-view skills. So put your mind into that of the characters, and show us what friendship, love, and personality mean! The Epistolary (...or Letter/Diary!) event will run from October 1 - 22.
Following with the posting rules of all House Cup challenges, your entry must be a minimum of 100 words and must follow the following posting format:
<Title> LD: Title of Your Fic, Rating
<Before body of fic> Title: Rating: Word Count: Warnings (if any): Summary:
Please keep in mind that diary entries are all written in first-person, and typically don’t go into explicit story detail (which means no “I walked to the mirror and stared at my haggard reflection”).
If you fancy a bit of mystery, you don’t need to tell your readers by whom the diary or letter is written!
Finally, don’t forget that House points will be awarded for every fic posted and every review for that fic – so make sure you get in there!

Are we allowed to do Chat style fics?

Chat style fics tend to apply more to a Dialogue Challenge (which may or may not be occuring in the near or far future... ) and so we're not going to allow those types of fics this round. The Letter/Diary challenge is more of an introspective look - it's about getting inside a character's head and emotions - through a written format. Unless your chat style is one-sided and introspective, you'll have to save it for later!

Okay, great Thanks! Also, is there a list of possible beta readers anywhere? I don't have one, and my grammer/spelling is not that great, and my characters tend to get OOC (which annoys me). So I was hoping I could get someone to overlook/help me with whatever I write for the challenge before I post it. Sorry to be such a pain! I wasn't sure where/who to ask.

You know when you're posting fics...that goes in to the "attachment" section when you're making a new thread, right?

So I was hoping I could get someone to overlook/help me with whatever I write for the challenge before I post it. Sorry to be such a pain! I wasn't sure where/who to ask.We don't have a specific list of beta readers for King's Cross (which is a good idea by the way!), but I do know that Jess is a wonderful beta reader. I'm sure Jess or any of the mods would be happy to help you I'll start a beta reader thread though, and I'll PM you when I have. You know when you're posting fics...that goes in to the "attachment" section when you're making a new thread, right? When you want to post a fic you can just write the actual fic/ out it in the same way you would a normal reply. So if you wrote it in Word, just copy and paste it into the reply box, and be sure to put the proper posting format (ie Title/Summary/Warnings/excetra) for the fic your posting. I hope that answers your question, if not just let me know

Could I do something like magazine/newspaper articles? Would they count as epistolary? Wikipedia tells me that an epistolary novel is "a novel written as a series of documents. The usual form is letters, although diary entries, newspaper clippings and other documents are sometimes used." which would include them, but I don't know what you plan to count in the competition.
ETA: Also, what about email?
Sorry about the inundation of questions.

Zoe and I had a brief discussion about this - we've agreed that e-mails are perfectly fine, as are memos, IMs, Facebook, and Twitter!fics. And while she's agreed to allow newspaper articles, I think it detracts a little bit from the introspective theme - articles like that are typically written as an objective take, and read more like a third-person POV story - but if you've got some incredible plot-bunnies and can't bear not using them, you won't be penalised at all! Finally... to whomever is in need of a beta reader - I excel at editing (especially for spelling and mechanics) and will happily beta read anyone's work, fanfiction or original fiction or essays alike!

It is my understanding that the competition will be open until midnight, Pacific time (which is where Zoe, Jess, and Fate live). So you still have 15-16 hours left in the competition from when I'm posting right now.
