Summary: The last letter Lily ever wrote to her sister.
Dear Petunia,
I'm writing you to tell you about the happiest day of my life, the day I brought my son Harry James Potter into the world. It was in the evening of July 31st and James and I had just sat down to tea when I felt the unmistakable feeling of the beginning of labour. Fortunately I was able to safely deliver him here at our home with a little help from the Order. After an exhausting five hours (I'm sure I don't need to tell you how exhausting when you have not long ago given birth yourself!) but at 11:59pm my darling son arrived into the world red faced and wailing!
Petunia, he is such a beautiful baby, I am sure I am bias being his mother (as you would be with Dudley) but I cannot remember seeing such a perfect human being. He has inky black hair that is already sticking up in the back (Just like James!) and tiny perfect nose and ears (Just like James!) and big beautiful eyes that he uses to inspect the world around him (Just like me! Well the shape anyway, his eyes are still blue but I'm curious to see if they'll turn green like mine!). He is absolutely kissable and hugable and is the first thing I look forward to in the morning and the last thing I think about before I go to sleep. I am sure you feel the same way about Dudley; I would still love to see a picture of him one day. Perhaps in the future after things have calmed down we could meet and introduce our little boys? It would be wonderful if they could be friends as well as cousins.
I'm sure you remember my letter telling you we were going into hiding and though I still can't tell you the reason why I would like to tell you that despite our differences you are my sister and I have and will always love you Petunia. I would also like to ask you a favour, though I know it may seem tremendous. We are planning Harry's Christening soon and James' bestfriend from school will be named his Godfather. I would like to name you his Godmother, but unfortunately due to our circumstances there is no way you could attend the ceremony though I want you to know you are my first and only choice to fill this role to my son's life. So I am asking you if a day should come when James and I are no longer here could you please ensure that Harry is given a home? I know we have had our ups and downs Petunia, but please do this for me, if you at all value what we once had, please promise me that my son will have a home.
I had best wrap this up. Harry will be up from his nap soon and Peter (another of James' school friends) is coming for tea.
Give my best wishes to Vernon and a kiss to Dudley for me.
I look forward to the day I can see you again my dear sister.
Love,
Lily
