On a chilly September morning not too long after the start of term at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry a young wizard yawned in his seat already bored despite the lesson having only just started. The young wizard was a handsome one. About sixteen he had jet black hair which seemed to go every which way and glasses that covered sapphire blue eyes.
James Potter stretched in his cramped seat and cast a look behind him to the redheaded witch who sat just behind him. The witch, Lily Evans and the object of James affection for the past several years, caught his eyes for a moment and then turned her face away plainly trying to ignore him.
James sighed and picked up the parchment on his desk, shuffling until he found the piece he wanted then tapped his quill on his desk four times.
The parchment paper which allowed students to write notes to one another without a scrap of parchment ever leaving their desks was considered one of the Marauders' greatest inventions and a great aide to what the Marauders like to do best- break rules.
Instantly writing appeared in the handwriting of his best friend, Sirius Black.
Yes Prongs?
Hello Padfoot. Don't you think Evans looks smashing today?
I think she looks the same as every day.
Curr.
I think she looks smashing today!
Better watch out Padfoot, Wormtail has his eye on Evans too.
No, no, I didn't mean it like that!
Quite alright Wormtail.
I swear Binns gets duller every year. Anyone up for skipping next class?
The terms barely started and already you're thinking of skipping?
Oh Prefect Perfect Moony, Binns never does anything but read from the textbook anyway.
That's right, after all we should be planning our next outing, the first full moon of September is not far off!
What shall we do this month Prongs?
I don't quite know Wormtail.
Ah yes, I did miss our 'outings'.
We have quite a bit of mischief making to catch up on.
Suggestions gentleman?
How about leisurely walk through the Forbidden Forest?
No! Not the forest!
Never fear Wormtail. The three of us can handle anything we meet in the forest.
Oh yes, chasing monsters in the forest, that sounds splendid.
Isn't that what we do every month?
Moony isn't a monster!
I was referring to you Wormtail.
James was suddenly jolted from the conversation by someone kicking the back of his chair. He turned around to see Evans frowning at him, "Professor Binns asked you a question, Potter!" She hissed.
James turned around to find the room had gone very quiet and he realized everyone had been waiting for his answer for quite sometime. "Er..." He said, having no idea what the question was. "Dunno, Professor."
There was some snickering and he heard Evan's give a disapproving kind of sigh. Professor Binns didn't even bother to berate him, but simply went back to talking about Giant Wars or Goblin Rebellions or whatever it was and the class resumed to normal dull drone.
James looked down and wrote one last note.

Let's go tonight. Cards. Shack. Firewhisky.
