Title: My Darling wife
Challenge: Letter/Diary
Rating: PG
Word Count: 263
Summary: Merope Gaunt, pregnant and alone, has so few comforts left. Some she has to create for herself...
My Beloved Merope,
Though it is not deserved I beg of you to forgive me my sudden departure. It was never my intention to cause you any sort of anguish. Regretfully I can not tell my reasons, but I can tell you that it could not be helped.
Leaving you and our unborn child was like leaving behind my soul. I cannot eat nor sleep. I can only lie awake in the night, tracing the contours of your face in my mind and wondering if our child has inherited the lips I long to lay my own upon.
Every day since I have left you, every hour, every minute, my heart has ached with a terrible ferocity. It is like being eaten from the inside by some horrific beast. I await the day we will beat last reunited- you, me, and our precious child. We will be together and we will be happy.
I will come for you my Darling Wife. Never give up hope.
Your ever loving husband,
Tom
She folded the letter carefully and pressed the tattered bit of parchment to her lips. Her locket, Salazar's locket, weighed heavy between her breasts and the child kicked within her.
Her husband's letter, written in her own hand, was her last talisman of hope on nights like this. It was a cold night and though her belly ached with hunger and her teeth chattered with cold she did not feel it. She had Tom's letter and she had the hope and so long as she had it she could go on.
