Title: A Prefect Valentines for Percy
Rating: PG
Word Count:
Summary: Percy plans a Valentines for Penny but something- or rather someone- goes disastrously wrong.
Percy Weasley prided himself on being a perfectionist. His uniform was always pressed, his hair was always neatly combed, and his Prefect badge was always brightly polished.
So when the month of Febuary arrived to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the all the girls began to giggle and gossip about the holiday of Saint Valentines Percy was sure it was nothing he couldn't handle- he was after all a Prefect.
Though his relationship with Penelope Clearwater was a secret (it was not proper to publicly fraternize with a fellow Prefect) he had still taken time to arrange the perfect surprise for her. Since the holiday fell in the middle of the week and Percy was not about to sneak Penny and himself out of the castle (Percy Weasley did not break rules for any Saint!) he had found a seldom used classroom that would serve his purpose.
He had planned it all perfectly, every last detail.
Last Hogsmead visit he had visited Honeyduke's and (to the clerks great annoyance) hand selected a wide variety of Penny's favorite flavors and had them wrapped up in a heart shaped box.
With Professor Sprout's permission he had collected some of the mundane flowers from one of the Green Houses and attached a card on which he had composed a poem especially for the day.
A wave of his wand (and a perfectly executed lighting charm) had sent dozens of candles into the air and a flame to every wick. Hopefully the dim light would disguise the fact that his romantic set up was in fact a classroom.
And finally, after much pleading and begging, he had managed to borrow a wireless from the Twins' friend Lee Jordon. When Penny arrived, she would be serenaded by music from the Wizarding Wireless's Network's own romance channel.
Looking over the scene before him and giving it one last double and triple check Percy allowed himself to beam with pride Everything was perfect. Nothing could go wrong.
"Ohhhhh! What have we here? A Valentines for ickle Prefect Percy?"
Percey's heart dropped out the bottom of his stomach. Not Peeves.
The poltergeist wasted no time, he swooped and seized the box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavored Beans and ripped it open, sending most to the floor and dumping the rest in his mouth.
"Peeves!" Percy roared, shielding himself from the hail of sweets.
Peeves cackled evilly and swooped and grabbed the bouquet next.
"She loves you, she loves you not, she loves you, she loves you NOTTTTTTT!" Peeves chanted as he ripped of petals by the handful.
"Peeves! I'll tell the Baron! I really will I swear it!" Percy shouted, scooping up the flower petals and sweets alike, Penny would be here any minute!
"Ooooh! What's this? A poem?"
Percy dropped everything and glared up at the little man floating just above him. "That's privet!" He snarled and jumped up to try and snatch the poem back.
"My Sweet Penelope, My Sweet Penelope!" Peeves began to read, hovering just out of Percy's reach.
Percy pulled out his wand. "Accio card!"
The card zoomed from Peeves hand and Percy snatched it from the air.
"Hey!" Peeves yelled, his little face going red, "No fair!" He drop kicked the bouquet and sent it bowling into the floating candles. The bouquet caught fire and dropped to the floor at Percy's feet igniting the hem of his robes.
"Uh-oh!" Peeves muttered and disappeared with a pop.
Percy yelped and hopped around, trying to shrug out of his robes and stamp on them at the same time. Finally he turned his wand down on his robes.
"Aqua Eructo!"
A jet of water sprayed from his wand, putting out the fires and soaking him to the bone. Percy sputtered and coughed.
"Percy?"
He whirled around. Penny stood in the doorway, her eyes wide as she took in the ruined Valentine's surprise. Her sweets lay scattered and her flowers shredded on the floor. He stood soaked in robes that still smoldered.
A wizard's voice crooned from the wireless.
Percy coughed once more, pulled off his glasses to wipe them, and then handed her the card clasped in his fist (slightly damp and with with ink that ran).
"Happy Valentines Day, Penny."
